Who's connected to whom in the news

Not opinions — factual links: who said or did what, and who it connects to. Every edge is a real event with a source link. This is a small seed of real stories — the base grows with every day processed, and older items move to the Archive automatically.

About World Pulse

A prototype for tracking who said or did what in world politics, as fact — not opinion — with a link to the original source on every claim.

What this is right now

All 221 countries are on the map and clickable — most just don't have any data yet, and say so honestly rather than faking coverage. real, sourced edges now span Europe, North and South America, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific and Africa, going back to January 2026. On top of that there are 13 active Chambers (international organizations, from the UN and NATO to BRICS, the EU, Mercosur, ASEAN, the African Union and the Arab League), full political-system profiles and person profiles (photo + bio from Wikipedia) — all hand-built so far, plus a growing set of edges pulled in automatically: news is checked every 30 minutes, an AI extraction pass runs every 6 hours, and nothing goes live without a human reviewing it first. Nothing here is an invented connection, date or quote.

The attribution rule

A news item belongs to whoever is the actor — the one speaking or acting — not whoever it's about. "Lithuania's president says the drone was Russian" is filed under Lithuania, not Russia, because Lithuania is who's speaking. People are tied to the country they represent (Putin, Lavrov → Russia), so their statements count as that country's international activity.

International vs. Domestic

International — an edge that crosses between two different countries, people, or organizations (a statement, an action, a reaction). Domestic — an edge internal to one country's own politics (an election, a domestic policy move). Domestic items are tagged directly, not inferred.

Recent vs. Archive

Items from the last 3 days count as recent and show on the Map/Feed. Anything older moves to the Archive tab automatically — same data, just no longer "current."

What "System" pages are (and aren't)

Country System pages describe how a government is structured — head of state, legislature, how power changes hands. These are structural facts, not breaking news, and are not individually sourced per line the way news items are; treat them as a snapshot as of when they were written, not a live feed.

What Chambers are

Chambers hold real, sourced statements from international organizations (UN, NATO, EU, G7, G20, WTO, BRICS, Mercosur, ASEAN, the African Union, the Arab League, OSCE, International IDEA), shown chronologically. Nothing is written on an organization's behalf that it didn't actually say — unfilled chambers are marked "coming soon" rather than guessed at. The WHO isn't included here since it's a health body rather than a political one.

What the map's glow means

The map's glow on the Activity view is our own transparent metric, computed live from this site's real, sourced edges — not an official index, not implied to be one. For each country we count how many edges (international + domestic) it has in the last 7 days, rank all countries with any activity by that count, then split them into quartiles: top 25% glow strongest (tier 1), next 25% weaker (tier 2), next 25% weakest (tier 3), bottom 25% don't glow. It measures how much World Pulse currently has on a country, not real-world tension or stability — with only edges so far, it mostly reflects what we've curated, not the state of the world.

Known limitations

  • Comments are stored in your browser's local storage only — not shared with other visitors. A real deployment needs a backend for that.
  • Country System profiles (structure, leadership, parties) and person/org bios are still hand-built, not automatically kept current — treat them as a snapshot as of when they were last updated, not a live feed.
  • The automated pipeline currently pulls from a fixed set of RSS feeds and Telegram channels, not the full range of outlets and languages this is meant to grow into.
  • Every automatically-extracted edge is reviewed by a person before it goes live — nothing is merged unattended, which caps how fast new coverage can appear.
